Drain Field Issue Signs
If you see something wrong with your drain field, don’t assume it will fix itself – it won’t. You need to deal with the issue before it becomes a bigger issue and becomes unrepairable. The sooner we address your failing drain field, the better chance we have of fixing it.
- Standing water -As your septic drain field ages, wastewater may rise up through the grass, making it soft and mushy, often with unpleasant odors.
- Slimy substance on the surface: – A black slimy substance on the drain field’s surface or edges indicates soil restriction or a malfunctioning drainage system.
- Winter freezing: – In winter, a restricted wastewater flow can lead to a solid ice block in the drain field, causing backups. While it may accept water in summer, the problem persists and worsens each time it freezes.
- Pump running too long: – A restricted drain field can make the pump run continuously or engage more frequently, reducing its life and risking backups into the home.
Recognizing these signs early allows you to address the problem sooner. Never ignore drain field issues – schedule a repair with us before a complete replacement becomes necessary.
